Munnar is full of surprises, but if you’re looking for a spot that’s offbeat, raw, and breathtakingly beautiful, Mystic Waterfalls is where you need to be. Tucked away in the lush greenery of Kerala’s Western Ghats, this hidden paradise is a dream for backpackers who crave adventure, solitude, and a deep connection with nature.

Why Mystic Waterfalls?

A Solo Traveler relaxes on a rock, taking in the serene beauty of Mystic waterfall cascading into a turquoise pool amidst rugged cliffs.

Imagine this: You’re trekking through scenic trails, the sound of rustling leaves and chirping birds guiding your way. A gentle mist rolls in, and suddenly, you hear the distant roar of cascading water. You push forward, and there it is—Mystic Waterfalls, a surreal sight straight out of a travel fantasy.

Unlike the more popular waterfalls in Munnar, Mystic Waterfalls remains untouched by the usual tourist crowd. That means no chaotic selfie hunters, no loud tour groups—just pure, unfiltered nature.

The Trek to Mystic Falls: An Adventure Worth Every Step

The journey to Mystic Waterfalls isn’t just about the destination—it’s an experience in itself. The trek takes you through open trails, gentle slopes, and rocky terrains, with occasional glimpses of Munnar’s stunning valleys.

  • Trek Level: Moderate (Expect a mix of uphill climbs and stream crossings)

  • Duration: 30-45 minutes (One way from Monkey Tribe Munnar)

  • Best Time to Visit: All year round (but monsoons make the falls even more spectacular)

  • Pro Tip: Wear good trekking shoes and carry a light rain jacket—the mist makes everything feel magical but also a bit slippery!

  1. Untouched Beauty: Unlike famous waterfalls like Attukad, Mystic Waterfalls remains a serene spot known mostly to backpackers and locals.

  2. A Refreshing View: While you can’t swim during monsoon due to the strong river flow, the sight of the falls surrounded by lush greenery makes up for it.

  3. Nature at Its Best: The trail is lined with wild orchids, exotic butterflies, and ancient trees, making every step a treat for nature lovers.

  4. Meet Fellow Explorers: Since this is a lesser-known gem, the people you meet here are usually hardcore travelers and adventure lovers—perfect for making new connections.

Things to Remember

✅ If unsure about trekking alone, ask locals for a guide—they know the way best.
